About
Caleb J. Roberts is an award-winning screenwriter and director from Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 2022, Caleb became the first transgender person to receive funding from Northern Ireland Screen to write and direct short fiction. He began his career with a commission from BBC Northern Ireland as part of BBC Two Minute Masterpiece Series 4.
Caleb’s two BFI Network and Northern Ireland Screen-funded short films Homebird (2022) and Malcolm (2023) have been recognised with numerous awards and nominations at international BAFTA/Academy qualifying film festivals. Both shorts have secured broadcast distribution on Channel 4 with Film4.
Caleb was among 15 filmmakers selected for the NETWORK@LFF Talent Development Scheme 2023 at the 67th BFI London Film Festival. He was one of 8 emerging screenwriters spotlit at the LFF Industry Programme 2023 sponsored by the Hollywood Reporter.
In 2024, Caleb was selected for the Screen Ireland X-Pollinator Talent Development Scheme and commissioned for his third BFI Network and Northern Ireland Screen-funded short film, Purebred (2025) going into production in the Summer of 2024.
Caleb is currently in the early stage of development of two long-form projects and is represented by Liam Francis Quigley at 42 Management. He is a member of TRANS+ On Screen.
